Combat Rules

When fighting, adhere to the following rules, unless explicitly stated otherwise.

1. Rule changes can only be made between sparring partners when sparring or by staff during an event. In the former case, you and your opponent can agree on the conditions/rule changes. In the latter case, only the event manager(s) can state the conditions/rule changes.

1.5. You cannot be in multiple combat topics at the same time. You must flee the newest one if this occurs. Your opponent cannot stop you fleeing in this instance. However, if this happens, your stats cannot be reset to normal until all combats end. (See rule

------------------------------------------------

Health, Chakra and Energy

Fighting works by considering three statistics: Health, chakra and energy.

2. If your health is depleted, you are considered knocked out. You must then be taken to a hospital to recover. Any character who knows where you are can take you, and has the choice of where to take you.

3. If your chakra is depleted, you cannot cast any jutsu. Unlike the anime/manga, you are not rendered unable to fight as long as you have energy.

4. Your energy dictates how many posts you can fight for. If this reaches 0, you must not attack or block in one post in order to increase your energy by 20. This is explained in greater detail later on.

4.5. Once you leave or successfully flee combat, your health, chakra and energy are completely restored.

------------------------------------------------

Actions During Battle

During battle, both you and your opponent take it in turns to use jutsu, attack with your weapons or fists, or to block.

5. You can perform up to two actions in one post during combat, unless stated otherwise. These actions (exceptions listed below) can be any mix of:
- Attacking
- Blocking
- Dodging (limited to 2 per topic via Substitution Jutsu)
- Using an item
- Casting a jutsu
- Fleeing

5.5: You may move around, without your movements counting as an action. Your opponent is also permitted to move within range of you in response, as well.

6: To flee, you must state that you are attempting to flee through roleplay or via an OOC comment in the post. If the opponent(s) do(es) not attempt to block you or stop you from fleeing in your next post, you are considered to have successfully left the topic.

7. If a roleplayer decides to use a jutsu or special attack that has a combination (for example, two or more hits) that rely on the first strike hitting in order to be able to use the second, and the first strike is avoided by means such as substitution or blocking (depending on the jutsu), this means that the rest of the jutsu is cancelled out [but the costs for it are still paid] and the attacking player then returns to their base combat stance, ready for their next post. However, if the attacking player has a follow-up action that does not rely on the success of the first action, then they instantly move to this action.

7.5. Following on the above, the defending player (the one not performing the consecutive attacks in this instance) cannot 'prevent' the second action from occurring, unless like the combination attack, it relies on the first action being successful.

However, there are a few exceptions to the actions that roleplayers can use, to help the combat system be more streamlined:

- You cannot flee, then attack.
- You cannot attempt to flee twice in the same post.
- You cannot attack, then block in the same post. You must block, then attack.
- The exception to this is if your jutsu has this effect by default, such as 8 Trigrams, 64 Palms rotation.

------------------------------------------------

Statistic Modification

Statistics tend to be modified after every post in combat. Statistics are found in your profile, on the far right tab.

7. Failure to update these in your profile before your enemy posts (unless they do a one or two-liner within five minutes or less) will see all of your stats reduced by 20, 20 and 10, respectively - in addition to whatever you lost in the last post. An alternative to updating your profile is to post your statistics at the end of your post. However, if you choose this latter option, you must remain consistent in using it until the end of the topic.

- If you are hit by a jutsu, reduce your health by the amount of damage the jutsu causes.
- If you cast a jutsu, reduce your chakra by the amount that the jutsu requires to cast.
- If you attack or block with a physical maneuver in one post, decrease your energy count by 10.
- For clarification, your energy is not reduced when you use a jutsu, unless the jutsu requires energy.
- However, your energy cannot increase unless you make a post wherein you do not use any jutsu or physical maneuvers.
- If you wait for one post in the above fashion, increase your energy by 20. This can be used from your next post.
- You can charge chakra in the same fashion, but charging chakra does not allow your energy to increase. Charging chakra restores 10 chakra.
- You can only recover health through the use of a healing jutsu or item.

------------------------------------------------

Items

There are certain items and skills that can change the amount of damage a jutsu causes, heal an ally, and so on.

8. To use these items or jutsu, you must state in your post that you are using the item, and include the name of the item.

- State the name of the item
- State when the item is being used in your post
- State the damage reduction or other benefits the item offers

------------------------------------------------

Roleplaying Etiquette

When roleplaying, it is important to be clear and concise. There is no point creating a thousand-word post only to make it harder to understand: this spoils the element of roleplaying and makes it a chore.

9. Be clear and concise in your posts and do not obscure information.

- Do not use more words than necessary to describe actions going on.
- Do not attempt to hide your actions behind the usage of fancy words.
- If there are any arguments, please do not attempt to solve these yourselves. Take them to a moderator who will look over the fight and try and explain the situation to both sides.
- Keep the roleplaying environment fair and fun for all, even for those whose native language is not English.

10. You may not control other people's (intended) actions, including but not limited to changing the trajectory of a weapon (unless a jutsu you perform in response does so) and you may not change or add to actions that have already happened in previous posts. Hits cannot be assumed to have made contact with other characters unless they respond as such, since the other character(s) may dodge, block instead of simply taking the attack. Follow-ups should be simple in case of interruption from another character. Also, it is not allowed to go back in time to change a previous action of your own, though others are free to interrupt you.

If you spot a mistake involving one of the rules above, first pm the relevant player, politely informing them of their mistake, and ask them to make edits so as to not break any rules. If there is disagreement over whether someone is breaking the rules, then ask a mod to take a look as an outside opinion.

11. For basic roleplay topics, posting order will not be enforced. However, for more serious topics, involving combat, or inter-village negotiations, etc. posting order will be enforced. Posting order will typically be in the order of character entrances.

If someone gives sufficient notice, either in its own topic, or in their latest reply in their thread, that they are going to be unable to post for a while, remove them from the posting order until they are able to rejoin. While removed from the posting order, interacting with their character is not allowed.

New characters joining the topic after it has gone underway should be inserted into the posting order following whoever posted previously to their first post. If 48 consecutive hours pass while it is one character’s post, then they may be skipped, re-entering the posting order when able. If the topic is not important, it is suggested that everyone wait a little extra, as sometimes other things, like real life, get in the way temporarily of posting. If someone repeatedly makes the next poster wait more than 48 hours, without giving notice, then feel free to post as soon as wanted past the minimum wait.

If someone does not post promptly and is skipped, and the topic is not primarily a combat thread, assume the character being skipped is occupied with studying something, a jutsu perhaps, but it would not be very fair to force them into signing a contract or anything such.

If someone does not post promptly and is skipped, in a topic that is a sparring match, or a serious fight, then feel free to keep 48 houring them.

12. If you are not sure about something, and need to ask someone, the mods will answer to the best of their ability, or consult with others better equipped to answer specific questions.

Thanks very much!
